The Four Types of Narcissism: Treating the Epidemic
The incredible power of the narcissistic client can often find mental health professionals feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. This workshop will address such difficult issues as preventing premature termination, narcissistic rage, sexual addiction in the narcissistic client, the potential for the retaliatory lawsuit, and narcissistic somatoform disorder. In addition, countertransference including professional humiliation, devaluation, invisibility, and performance anxiety will be discussed. Knowing how to recognize the four types of narcissism, form a therapeutic alliance with each, and provide type-specific interventions can provide a strong therapeutic stance with what can otherwise often seem intimidating clinical issues.
